Vic Club's Uni Games Medal Success Continues

Uni Games, an event normally reserved for the main university centres, was held in Rotorua for the first time this year and once again the Victoria University Goju Ryu Karate club was represented.
Hot on the heels of last year's Games success in Christchurch (3 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze) the club sent its hopes up in a sole competitor, 9th Kyu James Lawton.
This was James's first ever competition and not all went according to plan - he was supposed to compete as a novice but low attendance saw the divisions merged and instead he performed kata in a Mens Open division. His opponents were not only a couple of black-belts, but they were also the Gold and Silver medalists from last year's Uni Games.
Undaunted by his classy opposition, James put in a solid performance of Gekki Sai Dai Ichi and walked away with the Bronze medal and new inspiration after witnessing the quality of the winning kata performances.
