Upper Hutt Karate Club
Goju-Ryu is considered a traditional karate style because it can trace its lineage straight back to the founder, Chojun Miyagi Sensei and is dedicated to preserving the art in its original form, as handed down by Chojun Miyagi Sensei.
The Traditional framework provides training in various aspects of Karate including,
- Basic Karate techniques,
- Kata (Prearranged fighting movements)
- Bunkai (self defence applications for Kata movements),
- Kumite (Free sparring) from the novice to senior grade levels, and
- Supplementary fitness training specific to Karate.
The Upper Hutt club is a member of the International Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Federation New Zealand, (IOGKFNZ), which is affiliated to IOGKF. The club trains at Trentham School on Moonshine Road in Upper Hutt. There are a number of affiliated dojos within Wellington, so if students want to progress more rapidly or just want extra training, they can visit up to four other dojos, all within a half hours drive.
