Heretaunga Karate Club
The Heretaunga Karate Club offers instruction in traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate, as taught in the International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do Federation (IOGKF).
Goju-Ryu is considered a traditional karate style because it can trace its lineage straight back to the founder, Chojun Miyagi Sensei and is dedicated to preserving the art in its original form, as handed down by Chojun Miyagi Sensei.
The Traditional framework of instruction includes:
- Basic karate techniques
- Kata (prearranged fighting moves)
- Bunkai (self defence applications for the kata)
- Kumite (free sparring) from novice to senior grade levels
- Hojo Undo (supplementary fitness training specific to karate)
The Heretaunga Karate club is a member of the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Federation New Zealand, (IOGKFNZ), which is affiliated to the parent body IOGKF. Heretaunga Karate Club is also a member of Karate New Zealand, the sporting body of karate which facilitates tournaments.
